FHA loans are much different than conventional loans, and appraisers see this too. FHA/HUD has a list of minimum property requirements, and the appraiser must make sure the property meets these minimum standards. So can a broken garbage disposal hold up an entire FHA loan from going through? If not corrected, then yes. Are appraisers being too strict here? No. It’s really just what FHA says.
